Police arrest and charge man in relation to armed robberies in Western Victoria
A South Australian man has been charged overnight following a series of alleged armed robberies across Western Victoria yesterday (July 10th).
Police arrested the 34-year-old outside a property on Main Street Bealiba, at about 7pm.
The man has been charged with a number of offences, including aggravated carjacking, attempted aggravated carjacking, aggravated burglary, armed robbery, robbery, theft of motor vehicle, attempted theft of motor vehicle and assault.
The charges after the man allegedly knocked on the front door of a property in Concongella, just outside of Stawell, at about 6am threatening the owner with a knife and stealing her white Holden Captiva.
The man is then believed to have driven over an hour to Rathscar where he approached a second vehicle on a rural property on McCardles Road, when the owner challenged the man.
The offender then produced a sledgehammer, got back in the Captiva but was chased on foot by the owner of the second vehicle forcing the man to dump the Captiva and continue on foot.
