The Mayor of Ararat moves interstate

Reports have revealed the Mayor of Ararat Rural City Council, Glenda McLean, is allegedly now living interstate.

Multiple sources have spoken to a local Fairfax Media paper revealing Councillor McLean has moved up north to Queensland after removal trucks were reported to be outside her residency, packing up her possessions.

At this stage there will be no inference from the Victorian Government, as the Ararat Council has the sufficient number of councillors to call a general meeting to form a quorum.

There are media reports Cr McLean has taken a job in far north Queensland at the Mount Isa Hospital, more than 2600 kilometres away from Ararat.

Mount Isa Hospital has been contacted but they could not confirm nor deny Cr McLean is employed there.

Cr McLean has failed to attend recent councillor briefings in person in the past several weeks, but is expected to be present at the next monthly council meeting this Tuesday night from 6.00pm in the Council Chamber, Shire Hall, Barkly Street.

The Ararat Council has been under intense scrutiny over the past year, over its attempt to abolish differential rates for farmers.

A State Government Commission of Inquiry was launched and the independent review found the council failed comprehensively when it came to setting rates and engaging with the community.

As a result the State Government appointed a municipal monitor to the council for two years, to oversee its decision making and improve its rating strategy.

Last year Cr McLean told the public gallery to "suck it up princesses" at a council meeting discussing the controversial uniform rates, resulting in a code of conduct complaint being launched against her.

Cr McLean apologised to the community seven months after she was reprimanded for the inappropriate behaviour.
