Classic fairy-tale villains will write their own happy endings in Haven & West play

Classic fairy-tale villains will write their own happy endings in an original Horsham West and Haven Primary School play.

More than 100 students from grades three to six will perform comedy musical ‘Unhappily Never After’ at Horsham Town Hall from October 30 to November 1.

The production, written and directed by Larissa Riddell and featuring iconic children’s characters The Big Bad Wolf, Wicked Witch and Cinderella’s ugly stepsisters, will start at 7.30pm each night.

Teacher and production assistant Karen Gebert said the show was about four fairy-tale ‘baddies’ who were tired of being the source of conflict in their tales, making a new ending and challenging the idea of what was considered normal.

“It has a very good message and theme behind it,” she said.

“And the students are just amazing, they’ve really risen to the occasion.”

Mrs Gebert said it was great to see students from the school’s Haven and West campuses come together, with new friendships based on their interest and passion for performing arts.

“Camaraderie and co-operation is so important,” she said.

“The children learn to work together and it makes them realise the value of teamwork.

“It’s a unique learning atmosphere that you can’t create in the classroom.

“To see all that come together is really fantastic.”
